Essex House Hotel - Miami Beach

I wasn't too impressed with the rooms but it was definitely in a great location. Hotel needs to be renovated sometimes soon. The staff was extremely helpful with restaurants, fitness centers, and just about anything you needed help with. The bathroom and rooms were an adequate size and the air condition worked great! The TV was a little small, but the main lobby and outside area was great. Beach is one block away and you get complimentary use of beach towels which was awesome! Pool is extremely small but again the location was the best! I would definitely stay here again based on location and staff friendliness.

This hotel is one block from Ocean Drive and in my opinion, it was better to stay here...very quiet compared to being right on Ocean Dr

The staff was very friendly. My room assigned did not have working air conditioning. The maintenance person (very friendly) was unable to fix it so they assigned me a new room. An upgraded room at that... The staff expressed how sorry they were for my inconvience with the non-working air conditioning. I was a little worried about how friendly the staff would be from write ups I had read prior to my stay but everyone from the parking valet to everyone I came in contact with were very friendly and always helpful.

The Essex Hotel was a great hotel. Prime location without the noise. The walls in the hotel are thin so you have to run the air all night to keep the noise from the next room down. But over all Great stay The staff was very friendly. Will be going back again.

This hotel is on a great location, you're literally half a block up from the beach, and two blocks down from all the shopping on Collins. My only complaint is that the walls are thin so you can hear everything... but really.. loved the service, from the valet to the front desk, to the bartender! Great stay!

Just stayed here recently. Nice hotel, good location, but lots of party people and it gets noisy at night. Many came in 3 am- 4am without regard for anyone who may have been sleeping. If that's what you are looking for, great. If not, then this may not be the spot. Staff was outstanding and never seemed bothered by any request.

The location is excelent, the rooms are very basic but clean and the staff is very, very nice and frendly. Overall, you get what you pay for. The amenities at the Clevelander are nice and you can use them all.

From check-in to check-out we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and will definitely return. The location is ideal, 1 block from the beach, and everything your heart could desire is within walking distance. Our room was perfect from the décor to the comfortable beds. Exemplary service all the way, we were truly pampered!! Thanks again to Manny, Domingo, Tommy, and Chris for making our stay a wonderful experience.

My family and I had a great experience with our stay at this hotel. The room was clean and very comfortable. The hotel staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, we could not have asked for better! The location was perfect, one block from the beach and Ocean Avenue, it couldn't have been a better location. We highly recommend this hotel to anyone, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here! Kudos!!!

The room was clean and modern in an obviously older building. Bathroom was really small but workable. Elevator could only hold 3 persons at a time. Location was outstanding. No problems with outside noise. Overall we were very pleased. No, it isn't a 5 star, but it is far better than the chain hotels who simply leave the lights on....

The Essex is an old hotel, probably built in the 20's and looks it. My biggest complaint was the smell that greeted us when I opened the door to our room -- mold and old. We were travelling with friends and their rooms smelled just as bad.

The building is in good shape. I found the staff friendly and helpful.

The staff was great, and the neighboring Clevelander was fun to grab Lunch or Happy Hour drinks at. Then, we could go back to the Essex House and escape the noise of the party. I was there on business and found the room to be modest, but adequate. The wifi signal was weak / spotty - but, during business hours I was able to connect and do what I needed to do. On cleanliness, the floorboards and carpet looked dirty - but, the bed and towels and shower all seemed very clean & fresh. The bed was comfy - and the location was within walking distance to the beach and lots of great shopping/dining.

This hotel is "vintage" but nicely maintained and a good value. Location is very good, with great places to eat within walking distance. Front desk staff is friendly and helpful. Valet parking price is outrageous!

We loved this hotel. The front desk clerk named Dee was so nice and helpful, she gave us many suggestions for food, beach, shopping, gelato. The whole hotel was very quaint and cute, and it felt like we stepped back in time. Our room was great, not a problem with it at all. Bathroom was small, but adequate, and the beds were very comfortable. Even though it is so close to the beach and clubs, we didn't hear a bit of outside noise in our room. We would highly recommend this hotel.

This is the second time I have stayed at this hotel. We stayed at the Essex House Hotel because of its great locations to the South Beach night spots and great shopping during the day. The hotel is a block from the beach, a few blocks from shopping and just steps away from great dining. The hotel staff were very nice and offered suggestions. The outside veranda is very cozy - a perfect place to sip a glass of tea (or your favorite cold beverage), sit under the shade and watch the world go by. If you're looking for peace and quiet, you're not going to get it here, however. The hotel is located on Collins, which is just a block from Ocean Drive, one of the most famous streets in the world. The hotel is busy - full of partiers, teens and, yes, a few families. If you can take the noise (we had very little), this place is for you. The location is great and there are some amazing hotel deals to be had.

We loved the hotel. It was quite charming. The hotel staff were very, very friendly and helpful. The walls are thin so you can hear other noises. However, if you are going there to sleep, you might not want to go to South Beach at all. Our room enabled us to fiddle with the thermostat, so we turned the fan on at night. The fan was loud and would help tune out the noise and made it easy to sleep through any people coming in late at night and being too loud. We walked everywhere, but cabs were always easy to hail. The bar in the hotel was very nice and there was happy hour. The bartenders were very nice and helpful. Especially the young gentleman that worked there when we were there. Would go again to this hotel without hesitation.

First rate in every detail. Room was clean and service was excellent.

We booked 2 rooms here but upon arrival they told us that they overbooked so they did a bit of scrambling to find rooms for us! The Director of Rooms was fantastic and all managers were pleasant to deal with and did their best to accomodate. Personality and service- 4.5 stars and compensation, we got quite a few drink coupons and a lunch for 4 on the house. The rooms were clean and comfortable, ac is noisy and walls are a bit thin, so just hope you don't get noisy neighbours. We did for one of the nights and quite hard to sleep.

The location of the hotel was perfect for the beach and the restaurant/nightlife entertainment. The hotel is in the center of it all. The room was very small and basic. Comfortable and clean for sleeping in and thats about it. Would stay again.

The Essex House was a good hotel in a great location. The rooms aren't terribly fancy, but the price is reasonable for South Beach. The lobby and lounge area were very nice. The staff, though, were exceptionally helpful. We got to the hotel very early (around 11 am) - well before check-in. The hotel staff took our luggage for us and said they would call us when our room was ready. Our room was ready in an hour, and they called me to let us know! We only stayed for one night, so we didn't have time to do much in the area, but the staff were very nice and helpful. They helped us get a cab back to the airport the next morning, too.

Well situated on Collins Ave, one block from Ocean Drive and South Beach The hotel had a feel of faded grandeur about it, like many I suspect in the area, with marble lobby and foyer areas with sofas and bar service provided Our room was quite small, smelt of cigars, and overlooked the rear service area, whilst my daughters room was much bigger, with no smell, and overlooked Collins Ave. Small bathrooms, but clean and adequate The staff were superb and very friendly and helpful There's no breakfast, but compimentary juice and coffee is provided

The room was a little outdated and small, but was clean. The customer service of the hotel employee's was excellent! That made the stay very enjoyable.

The service personnel was excellent, location was very convenient, only on block from the beach and walking distance to many great areas of SoBe. The small pool area was great to get the tanning day started and complementary towels for use during the day was helpful. I would stay at this hotel again the next time I am in SoBe.

Hotels in South Beach are overpriced....everyone knows that. To find a place that has no mold,no bedbugs, and is not rundown, is difficult unless you spend top dollar. The Essex House had none of this (no mold, bedbugs or rundown) at a fairly reasonable price, so we were pleased. The only problem, the room did not have enough places to store luggage. We would stay there again, because the location and friendliness of the staff was wonderful.

We enjoyed our stay at the hotel that was relatively quiet (for being on the main drag in south beach; had good windows). We couldn't understand why the hotel had 3rd (top) floor windows locked (perhaps child safety) which was annoying as the fresh warm February air was missed. We stayed in 2 different rooms two different weekends surrounding cruise dates and both were spotless and clean and updated. Having a hot shower during morning rush proved difficult but was able to have evening hot showers. Nice mini-pool and outdoor patio lounge and cool lobby with bar. No on-premises food service but many choice high and modest nearby.

The Essex House exceeded my expectations based on what we paid. First, the hotel is in a great location. It's a block off of Ocean Dr., which has both South Beach's most beautiful examples of the Art Deco style that it's famous for and a bustling social scene. Moreover, it's right near the meat of Ocean Dr., where the most popular restaurants and bars are located. The Essex House itself is also a good artifact from the heyday of the Art Deco design era. For the price we paid, the staff was surprisingly courteous and helpful. When asked about parking, the front doorman not only offered his own advice, but solicited the help of a nearby parking attendant to get his input as well. The person at the front desk was also very helpful. When checking out, I asked where I could find a internet cafe. The attendant asked to what purpose I needed the internet and when I told him that I needed to print tickets, he offered to do it from his work station. Both employees could have dismissed my questions with one word answers and I would have been satisfied. These two, however, went beyond their requirements to make sure that I was completely taken care of. Their concern seemed genuine, not merely as a means to a tip, and I found this very refreshing.

Just a block from the beach and lots of attractions. However the bathroom was unsatisfactory. The bathroom door did not shut completely, the sink did not drain adequately, and there was no ventilation.

The hotel wasn't dirty but it definitely did not match some of the reviews submitted by others. The online pictures made the rooms seem more updated and glamorous than they were in person. While the room was clean, it was very simple and lacked any sense of warmth. I would not put luxury in the same sentence as "Essex House Hotel"-it was more of a dorm room and the shower pressure is a joke. The room is in a great location and the staff is very helpful and friendly but the actual condition of the hotel is more like 2-star...old and poorly maintained, lacks a refrigerator, no decorations at all, an air conditioner that is sporatic and loud and a gross elevator. Also, the shelf located above the toilet is a recipe for disaster because everything you set down falls into the toilet. The location is the only upside...right in the heart of South Beach and a walk away from great restaurants and every club. Spend the extra !00 and don't get grossed out.

Lovely art deco hotel with an original large painted mural that covered one wall in the lobby. The personnel there were very helpful in answering all our questions. Lovely big old veranda out front of the hotel. One block from the beach.

Nice Art Deco hotel right in the heart of activities on South Beach and Ocean Drive. Nice friendly staff. Rooms not massive and slightly dated but clean and comfortable. Would stay again .

Without a doubt, the most outstanding part of the hotel was the "service." The staff was extremely helpful and soooo nice. They went out the way to make sure we were satisfied and comfortable. One thing: there is no longer a free cocktail upon arrival. Only gripe that i have is that they ran out of washcloths for a couple days which was a little inconvenient. Our shower and our sink did not drain, but we called them and they came immediately and fixed everything so it worked out just fine. They even had cookies and lemonade mid-day which was a nice snack to have after being in the sun all day. The breakfast is REALLY good-great continental selection and this hotel actually REALLY did look exactly like the pictures....very modern and all in all a great place to stay. If you can afford it, get a suite-they are beautiful and very cozy. If and when i go back, i will stay here again.

This is a nice hotel for a weekend stay if you want to check out the South Beach scen and surrounding area without having to drive.(Good bars, the beach, restaurants, clubs, etc. are all within walking distance to it.) The hotel bar was cool to hangout at before hitting the town, and the staff was great (very friendly). Downside is there's no parking at the hotel. However, there's a parking structure almost next door to it on the same side of the street. (Beware of the higher rates on the weekends!) For slightly better parking rates, check out the municipal parking lot at 13th and Collins.

The location was close to everything we needed. The staff was very helpful with providing dining tips and jet ski locations. The room was very cozy. The pool was small but it served the purpose and the outside deck is fun for sipping on your favorite drink while watching all the people walk by. I enjoyed my stay and would go again.

I travel to Miami frequently for work. This time around I took my mom - a Texas native whose never been to Miami. She loved the hotel and constantly said how nice and friendly the staff was. When we entered the hotel lobby we were immediately greeted by the bellman and the front desk lady. Both of them offered their services and assured us that if we needed anything not to hesitate to call. They even offered to make dinner reservations for us. Our room overlooked the pool and cabana and was less than a block from Ocean Drive. The continental breakfast area offered fresh fruit, pastries, cereals and juices. The patio was very hip. In the morning it was filled with dozens of people speaking different languages. Very chic. I've stayed at other South Beach hotels, but this one was the best.

The Essex House Hotel was the perfect place for a long weekend In SB. The location is outstanding; near the beach, bars and restaurants, but a block away from the madness so it was very quiet at night. The hotel has a great front patio area, pool and lobby that was a very nice place to spend half a rainy day. The staff was gracious and accommodating. The room was large, reasonably priced, clean and well maintained. The Essex House is a great choice for someone looking for a simple, but nice place to stay while in SB. If you're looking for a resort with all the amenities, then this isn't for you, but if you just want a nice place to come back to after the beach then the Essex House Hotel is great. We will definitely go back!

I stayed for two days in one of their suites while travelling on business. Very spacious and comfortable. Loved the Plasma HD TV, the bed was way cozy. A mini bar would have been nice. You also can't room charge at the bar.

Loved the staff; the huge porch out front. They went out of their way to accomodate us. Rooms are a little tight. Will stay in a suite next time.

There were hundreds of tiny spiders all over the place in the room. I complained and they put me in another room with one bed which meant 3 people in a queen size bed. The second room was cleaner but I would NEVER even consider staying there again.
