Petit Palace Posada del Peine - Madrid

This hotel has a great location. It is in the historic section of Madrid and close to many of the attractions. The Sol Metro is about three blocks away. The rooms are small but typical of European hotels. Some of the rooms in this hotel are not accessible by wheelchair because of stairs and the elevators are small. The staff was helpful and we stayed in this hotel at the start and end of our trip to Spain. On the whole it was a pleasant hotel and I would stay there again. I would ask for a room in the front with a balcony.

We booked a family room for our recent trip to Madrid for our family of 4. At check in, we were given (dah, dah, daaahhh)Room 408. We went upstairs and were shocked. We found a cramped room with sloped ceiling that was painted black with a series of asteroid swirl designs on it. We could stand up only in 1/3 of the room and had to stoop over to get around the bed. The only view was out of a tiny postage stamp window looking onto the roof tiles (and a beer bottle tucked in amongst them). We asked for a different room and were given a much better one (thank goodness), but one still with things in disrepair. With additional person charges, we would've done better booking two rooms. The location was good, but overall we didn't receive good value.

This hotel is well located for the art galleries on Paseo del Prado (approx 800m) and the many good tapas bars on Calle de la Cava Baja (approx 300m). Also close to Sol Metro station (100m) making it easy to get to the airport or the mainline station at Atocha. On arrival the service at Reception was a little slow, with two members of staff dealing with one person. Neither member of staff acknowledged us or advised that they would be dealing with us shortly. The room was comfortable but compact , you would not wish to stay more than a couple of nights for this reason. There was no bath but there was a (very effective) top of the range shower. The view from the window was onto a wall. However, I think this helped keep the room cool and we were out and about all day so this made little difference to us. The room was quiet and we were not disturbed by any noise.

Amazing shower and bathroom. New, clean, comfortable. Breakfast buffet was great food for a good value. The location was unbeatable steps away from the the biggest plaza in madrid. Night life was extremely active outside hotel which created a little noise but the air conditioning worked great and could buffer the sounds of the street.

We were so excited after reading other reviews of this hotel that we looked forward to our stay with high expectations. We checked in and went to our room. It was very small not really room for suitcases and people. The only flat surface to place things on was a small table desk that had a Laptop computer installed on it. The TV did not work. It turned on but the remote would not change channels or volume. The Shower had a power wand and the hose slipped out of the head when the water was turned on. The sheets had stains and there were no washclothes or tissues supplied with the room. Worst of all there were bedbugs. Of course we did not discover those until we slept in the bed [my wife felt that things were crawling on her all night]. In the morning we found a number of dead bedbugs in the bed. Afer we called the issues to the hotel staffs attention they did switch us to another room [it was even smaller]and they gave us a small bag of candy and cookies for our inconvience.

Great location. Nice rooms. Appreciated the free internet in the rooms. Staff for the most part was helpful. A little hard to find when your arriving into Madrid by car since it is in a pedestrian only zone. Would stay there again.

I chose the hotel because of other travelers' comments on Hotel.com. I stayed in the family room with my 24 and 18 year old kids. The space was a little tight, as expected, but the room was clean, well-located and QUIET. The service was great. Tip: Many people have suggested avoiding the Breakfast Bar because of the $ 10E per person cost. If you have kids, reconsider. You'll spend a few dollars less at cafes, but the kids will eat three times as much at the hotel so you'll spend less later. I learned the hard way.

After booking this hotel I read some fairly negative reviews about room size etc and was not sure what to expect. However, my experience of the Petit Palace was 100% positive. It was really easy to find from the Sol Metro stop, and in an ideal lcation for exploring the city. Upon arrival we were checked in without delay and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Our room was on the 4th floor with a balcony overlooking the small street nearby. The air conditioning meant that we were able to sleep comfortably despite the summer heat outside, and the room was more than big enough for the two of us. The breakfast on offer was also of an excellent standard, much better than I have found in other 4 star hotels. I had a fantastic stay in Madrid and intend to return to the city. When I do I will definitely stay here again - no complaints whatsoever.

This hotel locates at good location. But it was so noise we could not sleep. People in Madrid went out very late and street was noisy until 4 am

If you are looking for opulent extravagance this is not your hotel. That said we loved it. Clean convenient and great location. The hotel staff was helpful with dining, activity and event reservations. The rooms are very modern and well appointed but the bed was firm and functional but not luxurious. Located steps from Plaza Mayor, a 2 minute walk to Puerta Del Sol (Sol Metro) and a great 15min walk to the Palace. Be sure to walk 10 min to the variety of amazing bars and restaurants on Cava Baja.

This hotel is near the Playa Mayor. It is a great location for a stay in Madrid. The beds are hard, but the rooms are comfortable. Breakfast is fine, not great, but enough to get the day started.

Petit Palace Posada Del Peine is a great hotel tucked away between Plaza del Sol and Mayor Plaza. The Sol Metro is around the corner and makes getting to and from the Airport a breeze. The tricky part is getting to the right "Petit Palace" Hotel there are at least 5 in the immedeate area, the address Postas 17 will get you to the right one. There is a very nice reasonably priced breakfast buffett available each morning to start your day and dozens of bars and resurants a few steps from the door for dinner. The night life is easy walking disance so you'll save on cab fare and the Metro can get you anywhere else you might want to wander. Americans might find the rooms a tad small but this is europe and aside from resting and a great high tech shower how much time are you spending in the room anyway? The staff was great and lent us a plug adaptor to charge our camera. They also offer free foldable bicycles for guests to use to tour the city, ask the night before or the early birds will beat you out. The only down side, in our opinion, is there should be a coffee maker in the room but there is one in the lobby free of charge so you can still get your caffeine fix.

This was a lovely modern hotel nicely devorated and furnised. In a wonderful location to see all the best bits of Madrid, really easy to get to as well.

Petit Palace Posada Del Peine is wonderfully located between Plaza Mayor and Plaza del Sol, in the heart of the city of Madrid. The rooms are modern, including a computer with free internet access, clean and quiet, but relatively small. The bathroom is divided from the sleeping area by a translucent smoked-glass window--if that bothers you than it might be an issue. The decor is very modern and attractive.

Clean, quiet, well located and the in-room laptop was an unexpected bonus!

After a real bad experience in England, I was concerned that for the price point I was at, my vacation in Europe would be one bad 3 star hotel after another. Thank God for this hotel....It had everything I was looking for: Clean, Very good amenities, professional staff and an absolute great location. Near the Royal Palace and a few steps from Plaza Mayor. We spend most of our time walking the neighborhoods around this hotel. This is a great value.

just came back from a cruise/spain trip over 4 weeks (june 08) - stayed on 8 hotels + cruise ship. almost all of the hotels don't have room clocks, many didn't have washcloths, and virtually all don't have ice machines (some will get you ice, some won't, some will charge), most or all hotels had 2 twins (most my wife and i had to stick together ourselves), many offer internet somehow, but most charge. this one was free with a few asterisks. the decor is generally modern - metal/glass, lots of black. lobby is small, sits maybe 4-6. hallways are very dark, my room was very dark (not true of my newphew's room). my room had a slanted celing, so other than walking in the front door or taking a shower, i had to bend down (i am 5'8") or crawl on my hands and knees (seriously, i am not kidding or exaggerating). i had to bend down/crawl to walk around the bed, get to my clothes, go to use desk, use the toilet. my wife, who is 5'4" bumped her head 2 or 3 times (the ceiling is wallboard so it is very forgiving, east least where we hit our heads). most rooms at the hotel were "normal" but this one was not, so if i stayed there again (maybe not likely other than special circumstances or lot lower price), i would definitely try not to get this room (or any like it). at maybe 2 or 3 am, the garbage guys would come and clean up the neighboring restaurants and make quite a racket, so keep your windows closed - it helps. again, the room was pretty darned dark, but there are reading lights which helped a lot. huge lack of closet space and bureaus, so i just kept my clothes on the floor in piles (i was there 4 days). of all the hotels, this one rated lowest for closet/drawer space. internet was free, but we tried for 3 days to get wifi to work but never could. still the room comes with a PC and just plugging in ours to that one worked well enough. we ordered ice - one day they brought it, one day they told us to get it ourselves but they could not tell us where to get it.

Hotel was in a good location and well maintained. Would give excellent review but we had to check out 1 day early due to reasons beyond our control. Hotel was unwilling to refund the last day and Hotels.com was unwilling to help us. We thus were disappointed with the hotel and also with hotels.com

Location excellent adjacent to Plaza Mayor. Quick walk to the Metro, Puerto del Sol and lots of shopping and entertainment.

The hotel was great. The staff was great. But we heard those darn street musicians from 11am until midnight.

"Hi-tech," this hotel chain's slogan, is a euphemism for less than minimalism, an austerity hardly relieved by the flatscreen TV or laptop computer on the desk-- well not actually a desk just a slab. The room was extremely small and lacked amenities like a full-length mirror, coat hooks, etc. Great shower, though.

We did a lot of searching for hotels and this one came recommended by someone in Madrid so we decided to give it a shot. The location was awesome. It was central to everything and everywhere we needed to go. The metro is around the corner, though we could walk to most places. The hotel itself is small, as are the rooms, but the service was great and the best part was having a laptop with internet already in our room! I don't think every room has that so you should request it. The staff was helpful when asking for places to go and things to do...though I recommend double checking the directions since we ended up in the wrong place 3 times by their directions. Overall I would definitely recommend this hotel. There are 3 Petit Palaces in that area so just make sure to look for the one that is next to Plaza Mayor.

My wife and I and our two children (2 and 4) stayed four nights in a huge room on the top floor. It had a giant king size bed and two double bunk beds. The tope bunk was too high for our kids, but the other tow beds were more than adequate. The room gave us plenty of room to spread out. The frosted glass wall and door for the bathroom didn't bother us, but I could see how it could bother other travelers (as I read in one review). The location is amazing. We could walk everywhere, and the Sol train station was so close, could use it to leave the City center. There are not only amazing sites within walking distance, but too many bars/restaurants/shops to count. There was no downside for us, and I would stay there again and recommend it to others. And the free water, juice, and coffee in the afternoon/evening was a nice touch too.

The hotel was excellent overall. My wife and I needed a one night location while in transit through Madrid, in a location that gave us good access to museums, restaurants, and shopping. The Posada del Peine provided all. One mixed item was an early breakfast. The hotel had none, and there was no coffee maker available for the room. The late night clerk opened the lobby coffee machine several hours early (6:00am), and scrounged some fruit and bread from the kitchen overnight, to serve when I came down for coffee. The greatest problem was out of the hands of the hotel. Madrid's new mayor has turned many of the "Old City" streets into pedestrian only walkways. That means that the Posada does not have a street front for taxis to deposit guests. Most taxi drivers are not aware of the possible exception they can use, so I recommend arranging pick up through the hotels recommended taxi agency. Otherwise you may have to haul your luggage a couple of blocks like we did. An unresolved issue is, we are trying to get the hotels cooperation to return a couple of items we are 90% certain we left in the room in our early morning dash to the airport. I have called them twice so far, with no results as yet.

Couldn't have found a better location to visit the sites, only a footstep away from the main square in the old city, quietly situated and 45 minute metro journey to airport from nearby Sol metro station. Hotel has 4* amenities with pleasant breakfast room, but interior is ultra modern.

Would definitely recommend this hotel. Staff very helpful and friendly, close to Sol metro station and just off Plaza Mayor. The accomodation was clean with modern bathrooms. Decor a little odd in our room - but each to their own! Breakfast not included but good value at 9 euros.

Near Plaza Mayor. Nice reference point to find your hotel. Desk was very helpful with providing adapter for my blackberry, loaning us an iron, and accommodating our large group, dividing the children up. Breakfast at 9 euro was excellent. Very clean and easy.

Very nice hotel with a great location

Our group found this hotel to be super clean, sleek, and contemporary. Our first room had a stopped up sink. We informed the front desk and they moved us immediately to another room. No hassle.

The location of this hotel was unbeleivable! Unfortunately, the service was not very good. The front desk person(there was only one person working at a time)and it was always someone young and inexperienced. They were never able to answer our questions. At one point we were even told they would have to move us as they had made a mistake and needed our room for someone else! We found a used bandaid under our bed that wasn't ours, so cleanliness was not the best. The rooms were modern- looking and small, cave-like. The bathrooms were clean and again modern-looking( all the walls were frosted glass,) interesting shadow affects occuring as a result.

Just a few meters from Plaza Mayor, an incredible place to stay when visiting Madrid!

We stayed at the High Tech hotel chain both in Madrid and Sevilla. While the rooms are very comfortable, have contemporary styles, a large number of high tech features, and are in fantastic locations in both cities, the issue of the bathroom doors (not-lockable, frosted glass door with exposed areas along the side) in these hotels leaves much to be desired. While this type of room may be appropriate for single, couple or couple traveling with infants, we felt very uncomfortable with our pre-teen children. This appears to be a common theme with all the "high tech" hotels and is done to add to the contemporary decor of the room. Another issue to watch out for is the high cost of the buffet breakfast. Although these represent much more that just cereal (they have meat, cheese, eggs, bacon, cereal milk, yogurt, juice etc), the charge was 9 Euros per person in Madrid and 14 Euros per person in Sevilla (same for children). If you are looking for something less expensive and not looking to eat too much, there are numerous places around the hotel in Madrid where you can grab a sandwich or eggs and coffee for less than 1/2 the price.

Pour un premier séjour à Madrid, on ne pouvait être mieux situé !! l'accueil est sympa il faut juste parler un minimum anglais ou espagnol. bonne appréciation globale ... si je devais revenir, sans hésiter je prendrais le même hôtel !! on va le conseiller à nos amis et famille

Sono stato con moglie e figlia di 12 anni due notti. La camera era sufficentemente spaziosa, il bagno molto funzionale con una idrodoccia belissima, due televisori LCD, un computer HP di recente fabbricazione con collegamento sempre attivo ad internet ADSL, personale gentile multilingue, biciclette gratis a disposizione. La posizione è fantastica, a 50 mt da plaza mayor, a 400 mt dal palacio real, a 150 mt dalla porta del Sol, a 300 mt dalla Gran Via, a 500 mt. dal museo Thyssen e dal Prado, tutti raggiungibili comodamente a piedi,nel pieno della zona pedonale di Madrid, Per la colazione andate a farla in Plaza Mayor che è molto migliore e costa nemmeno la metà. Da e per l'areoporto usate un taxi con una spsa di circa 25-30 Euro.

+: très bien situé pour tourisme, central et pourtant assez calme. Propre, la chambre est agréable (déco moderne)et confortable. Ordi + connexion web dans la chambre. Accueil assez bon. - : Pour ceux qui apprécient pas de service en chambre.

Zwischen der Puerta del Sol (5 Gehminuten) und der Plaza Mayor (1 Gehminute) gelegen. Die Zimmer sehr ruhig. Laptop mit Internetanschluss in jedem Zimmer. Exzellentes Frühstücksbuffet. Freundliches Hotelpersonal. Das Hotel ist jederzeit zu empfehlen.

Lage perfekt,Mitarbeiter sehr freundlich, jugendlicher Charakter, absolut ruhig bei geschlossenen Fenstern.

Een hotel waar je je meteen thuis voelt dankzij de stijlvolle inrichting die goed in balans is met de historische sfeer die het gebouw uitstraalt. Alles zeer schoon en nieuw en het hoogtepunt is het ongelofelijk uitgebreide ontbijtbuffet waar je tot lekker laat in de ochtend kunt aanschuiven. Wel in een druk centrum dus je moet het niet erg vinden dat het nooit helemaal stil wordt daar.

Een leuk kleinschalig hotel van alle gemakken voorzien prettige en hulp vaardige bediening Kamer was keurig en schoon en van alle gemakken voorzien. laptop op kamer, stoom cabine in douch er stond zelfs een home trainer in de kamer. wij hebben ons uitstekend vermaakt. het hotel bevind zich op 1 minuut van play de mayor. Er is een kleine maar je moet er wel rekening mee houden dat mocht je met de auto zijn je deze altijd in een parkeergarage moet zetten dit kost zo'n 35 euro per dag extra. Hij staat dan wel veilig en de parkeergarage is om de hoek van het hotel.
